Having seen the purpose of speaking in tongues, let us now note the teaching of this chapter regarding the means provided for guiding us in the use of tongues. In verse 20 we are told, “Be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children [babes], but in understanding be men.” Here is a direct appeal for the exercise of our intelligence in the employment of speaking in tongues. God has given us brains and expects us to use them. The baptism in the Spirit should make us better thinkers.
